Space is very important in chess. At the
start of the game both players control the same amount of space. By pushing
pawns in the centre supported by pieces a player can gain more space and have
more room to move. Take a look at the position in the picture on the left. Who's
got more space? Well, White has. Where can the Black queen move to? hmm... no
many places! So, value space. Try to grab as much as possible, but don't be too
greedy - if you move your pawns too far they will be attacked and taken. |
